'blood posse' is about a young jamaican man, danny palmer, who descends into a world of urban crime in the new york of the 1970s. at first he is a Brooklyn high-school student, but when his close friend is knifed to death for no better reason than prejudice against West Indians, his life takes an extreme turn: he finds himself dragged into a cycle of drugs, robberies and retribution, eventually joining a gang of deadly Rastamen. A run-in with the law results in a harrowing two-year prison stay, but when Danny gets out he only switches allegiance to the mob and turns to cocaine as his primary source of income-with deadly consequences.
on this book:
This is a book describing the streets as they are and the continuous chemical processes at work in the social slums. Baker, who wrote his book from a British penitentiary, has based this novel on his own experiences. although baker's literary capacities are questioned by many, the struggle between Jamaican immigrants and 'homeboys' offers an intriguing perspective on standard racial themes.
